How to get the results you want from your team
“Progress requires precision.”
Most “feedback” conversations are vague.
Ex: “Can you get things done faster?”
That changes nothing.
Here's the "IPIF" script to use instead:
1. INTENTION - What's your intention?:
"The reason I am bringing this up is because I want to help you get better and grow."
2.PAST - What's the past evidence?:
“In yesterday’s client meeting, we missed the agenda and ran 20 minutes over.”
3. IMPACT - What's the impact?:
“That made us look disorganized and forced the client to rush decisions.”
4. FUTURE - What are their next steps?
“Next call, I want you to open with the agenda and timebox each section. I’ll join the next one to model it.”
Half the battle is being specific and telling them what to do next to improve their performance. The other half is having the courage to tell them.
Lead clearly,
Maritza Davila
